Five methods for determining pattern speeds in galaxies

چکیده

Context. After matter distribution and kinematics, the bar or spiral pattern speeds are next fundamental parameters determining dynamics of a galaxy. Aims. New refined methods for instantaneous scalar vector from restricted domain developed applications in N -body simulations galaxies such as Milky Way, which stellar coordinates become increasingly better known. Methods. The general feature used throughout follows fact that time derivative function is linearly proportional to its rotation rate particle velocities. Knowing these therefore allows retrieving speed by linear optimization. Similarly, if an invariant depends on position velocities, then vectors space can be retrieved. accelerations also velocity space. Results. first three based assumed rotational invariance functions at each point space: (1) 6D method, measuring space, (2) differential/regional 3D Tremaine-Weinberg evaluated over regions with high signal-to-noise ratio, (3) Jacobi integral yielding potential speed. Extensions derive center position, speed, acceleration introduced third methods. last two average coordinates: (4) 2D moment inertia using singular value decomposition, (5) Fourier method (3D m = 2 mode), giving mode speeds. Pattern derived fourth fifth Conclusions. Depending available data specific problems, different provide choice approaches.

Multiple pattern speeds in barred galaxies I. Two-dimensional models

We have studied the coexistence of several modes with different pattern speeds in barred galaxies, by a simulation survey exploring a wide range of initial conditions. The high resolution two-dimensional experiments cover the dynamical evolution for about one Hubble time. A remarkable feature of these simulations is that in many cases the spiral structure is clearly visible in the stellar compo...

Five methods for determining urinary calcium compared.

We compared frequently used methods for calcium in urine with respect to linearity, analytical recovery, within- and between-batch imprecision, bias, and practicability. We assayed serum, lyophilized urine, native urine, and an aqueous reference solution of calcium carbonate. We found that atomic absorption spectrometry and the Corning 940 Analyzer have the widest ranges of linearity; the methy...

Five methods for determining low-density lipoprotein cholesterol compared.

We evaluated three precipitation methods for determination of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in serum and an indirect method involving the Friedewald formula (Clin Chem 18: 499-502, 1972) by comparison with results by ultracentrifugation. The results of all methods for 83 sera, including 59 hyperlipidemic type IIA, IIB, and IV sera agreed very well, at least for concentrations of serum tri...

Determining Star Formation Rates for Infrared Galaxies

We show that measures of star formation rates (SFRs) for infrared galaxies using either singleband 24μm or extinction-corrected Paα luminosities are consistent in the total infrared luminosity = L(TIR) ∼ 10 L⊙ range. MIPS 24μm photometry can yield star formation rates accurately from this luminosity upward: SFR(M⊙ yr )=7.8×10 L(24μm, L⊙) from L(TIR) = 5× 10 9 L⊙ to 10 11 L⊙ and SFR = 7.8 × 10 −...
